You’re an oxymoron. And you’re an oxymoron.

And I’m one, too.

And it’s okay.

When I started this life + style blog {that has certainly taken on more of a “life” spin}, the beauty bloggers taking over the Internet mesmerized me.  Nothing seemed more glamorous than these girls posing with gifted clothing and showing off their cute photographer significant others.  So, I did it too.  It seemed easy — I, too had a cute photographer boyfriend.  Problem was, I hated the camera.  And I didn’t have money to buy new clothes.  And no one was going to send me free goodies any time soon.

Let’s face it, I had zero qualifications to become a fashion or beauty blogger.  And crafting?  Ha!  I can’t even color within the lines.  But I still try because I enjoy it.  Not the coloring outside the lines part, but the trying part.  Okay, maybe I enjoy the coloring outside the lines part.  It’s about the only time I choose to rebel.  I’m a teacher — I’m a rule follower.  Feeling risky?  I use markers.

However, what I was missing from these blogs was that it’s okay to not have it all and still feel beautiful and that beautiful is a thing that cannot simply be dressed in what’s trendy and thrown out into the world.

Beauty cannot be reduced to perfection.

It’s messy.  It’s found in vulnerability.  Beauty appreciates aesthetics without idolizing them.

Now I find myself put-off by the overuse of the term “essential.”  Why is this $2,000 handbag essential to my summer wardrobe?  Don’t get me wrong.  I can admire the heck out of the suppleness of that leather, the artful stitching, and OH the compartments {oh, is that just me??}.

The same photographs of green juice and coffee cups conveniently placed over a shiny pair of shoes in a newly manicured and decorated hand overwhelm my Instagram feed.  I’m complaining, but I won’t complain in vain.

I’m also proclaiming.  I want to make a promise to you and to myself, as I venture to take on blogging more full-force this summer; I will try my best to always write to the tone of, “It’s okay to be imperfect.  You don’t have to have it all.  All you have to do is be you, and yes, it is still okay for you to want that handbag.  Get it, girl… because you deserve it… but just make sure you have enough money saved first and that you do it for YOU and YOU only. ;)”

xo,

Darlin’

P.S. I won’t point my finger outward without pointing it inward, too.  Disclaimer:  While you take pictures of your green juice or coffee cup, I will take a picture of the same champagne glass you saw from someone else two seconds ago.  Just give me a few minutes.
